Missouri sits in the geographic center of the U.S., bordered by eight states. It’s easy to travel nationwide with two major airports (St. Louis Lambert International and Kansas City International) plus several regional hubs. Interstate highways and Amtrak also make cross-country travel convenient. Home prices and rent are significantly below the national average, making it attractive for first-time buyers and families. Missouri property taxes are generally lower than in many other states. Utilities, groceries, and transportation tend to be affordable compared to the national average. St. Louis is known for cultural institutions, professional sports, and historic neighborhoods, while Kansas City is famous for barbecue, jazz, thriving arts, and a growing tech/startup scene. Lake of the Ozarks and Table Rock Lake offer boating, fishing, and vacation-style living. Mark Twain National Forest and the Ozark National Scenic Riverways provide hiking, camping, and floating. The Katy Trail is one of the longest rails-to-trails biking paths in the U.S. Top institutions include Washington University in St. Louis, University of Missouri, Missouri State University, and Saint Louis University. Strong in health care, education, manufacturing, agriculture, transportation, and growing tech hubs in Kansas City and St. Louis. Many professionals find they can live comfortably on lower salaries compared to coastal states. The community creates a blend of Midwestern friendliness and Southern hospitality with many safe suburbs and small towns with good schools. Missouri features a rich music heritage (jazz, blues, ragtime, country), strong sports culture (Cardinals baseball, Chiefs football, Blues hockey), and diverse food scene. The state has four distinct seasons with hot summers, colorful autumns, cold winters, and mild springs.
