The University of Michigan Department of Radiation Oncology invites applications for a board certified/eligible Radiation Oncologist at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor to build an academic career. This position offers a unique opportunity to practice in two complementary clinical settings, providing comprehensive general radiation oncology care at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System while developing a specialized Genitourinary (GU) Radiation Oncology practice including high dose rate brachytherapy at the University of Michigan.
The ideal candidate will display excellent interpersonal skills, excellence in patient care, and the ability to work successfully with a team. In addition to providing patient care, the faculty member will be expected to conduct research including clinical trials, publish, and teach medical students and residents. There may be other disease sites that need support based on departmental needs.
Responsibilities
In this role, the candidate will provide comprehensive general radiation oncology care for Veterans at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, treating a broad spectrum of malignancies in a multidisciplinary environment. In addition, the candidate will provide specialized clinical care for patients with genitourinary (GU) cancers at the University of Michigan, Department of Radiation Oncology with a particular focus on supporting a brachytherapy program.
In addition to clinical practice, there will be opportunities for teaching and clinical services research. This position will have strong connections to and enjoy support and opportunities for collaborative work with University of Michigan faculty colleagues, particularly GU Oncology. The major criterion for appointment in the Clinician track is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical research, and teaching.
We are interested in candidates with strong training in clinical radiation oncology and a track record of clinical research. The successful candidate is expected to engage in the University of Michigan’s tripartite mission of clinical care, education, and research. Foundational to this is excellent clinical radiation oncology care, collaboration in a multi-disciplinary setting, and robust contribution to the University of Michigan GU cancer care program that provide quaternary state-wide care. The qualified candidate will be expected to engage in resident training through rotations and mentorship, as well as medical student teaching with opportunities for mentorship. The candidate will be expected to participate in clinical research, and will have opportunities to work with trainees and medical students on clinical research projects, as well as access to the University of Michigan Clinical Trials Office in order to open investigator-initiated trials. Notably, the department has a 3T MR Simulator with unique clinical research opportunities for GU cancers.
Experience in multi-modality treatment planning (e.g. PET, 4D CT, MRI) and image-guided brachytherapy, and interest in image guided radiotherapy (IGRT), stereotactic radiosurgery, and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), is strongly desired. As a faculty member of the University of Michigan Department of Radiation Oncology, the successful candidate will be an active participant in institutional tumor boards and departmental meetings.

Requirements
Medical degree with completion of residency training in Radiation Oncology in an ACGME-certified program. Board-Certified or Board-eligible by the American Board of Radiology. Possess expertise in a variety of radiation treatment methods. Hold or have the ability to obtain the appropriate medical licenses for the state of Michigan. Previous record of publications in scientific journals, research and teaching is desirable.
