Description
This is a 12 month position; Housing is provided as this position requires living in our residential boarding community
Windermere Preparatory School is seeking an experienced Nurse to assist our Secondary School and Residential Life students with all school health policies and programs. The Nurse will provide expertise of school health services and will be responsible to care for the general medical needs and medical emergencies of our secondary and boarding students.
Using their clinical knowledge and judgment, the successful candidate will be performing the following duties:
Key Responsibilities
- Student Health & Clinical Care
Assess, treat, and document student illnesses and injuries.
Provide first aid, triage, and emergency response as needed.
Monitor students with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, seizures, or mental health concerns.
Coordinate and take an active role in physician referrals, specialist appointments, and follow-up care.
Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Medication Management
Administer prescription and over-the-counter medications according to physician orders and school policy.
Maintain medication logs, storage, inventory, and controlled substance protocols.
Educate students on medication adherence and self-care practices when appropriate.
- Residential Life Support
Collaborate with Residential Life Management and Staff staff to support student wellness and safety in residential settings.
Participate in on-call rotations, evening/weekend coverage, or emergency response as required.
Assist with student wellness checks and health-related accommodations within dormitories.
Support students adjusting to independent living and boarding school life.
- Health Education & Prevention
Provide health and wellness education to students and staff.
Promote preventive care including hygiene, nutrition, sleep habits, stress management, and communicable disease prevention.
Coordinate vaccination compliance and public health reporting requirements.
Assist in implementing school-wide and Residential Life health initiatives and wellness programming.
Assist Lead nurse with developing and delivering health/sex-related curriculum and education to high school students
- Collaboration & Communication
Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns and care plans.
Work collaboratively with counselors, athletic trainers, administrators, and residential staff.
Serve as a resource for faculty and staff on student health and safety matters.
Participate in multidisciplinary student support meetings.
- Compliance & Safety
Ensure compliance with state nursing regulations, school policies, health department, and NAE requirements.
Maintain infection control and emergency preparedness procedures.
Support crisis response and student safety planning.
Other Duties as assigned by Residential or School based Leadership
Requirements
- Current FL RN license
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification
- 3+ years experience required, preferably in a boarding school or pediatric setting
- Ability to live in Residential Housing and recognize that the unit may be used for overflow and/or triage if necessary
- Must have the ability to be on-call every other weekend during the year.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Ability to assess situations and act quickly
- Communicate appropriately, collaboratively, and effectively with students, parents, administrators, other school personnel, health care providers, and community agencies
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in the student population and its health needs.
- Be a self-starter or self-motivated
- Knowledge of Magnus preferred and proficiency with computers and various software applications.
- This is a 12 month position and candidate must have the ability to live in our Residential Village.
