Veterinary Assistant - Neurology - Full Time
Veterinary Surgical Centers in Vienna, VA
$20-22 hourly pay rate
WHAT YOU'LL DO
In this cross-trained role, you'll rotate across our Neurology and Surgery departments, building expertise in both. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting board-certified neurologists and surgeons during examinations, procedures, and surgeries
- Supporting neurological patient care including assessment, monitoring, and nursing care for neuro patients
- Monitoring anesthesia and supporting pre- and post-operative patient care across both specialties
- Performing surgical prep including shaving, sterile scrubbing, and instrument setup
- Taking patient histories, monitoring vitals, and performing patient check-in and discharge
- Performing in-hospital laboratory procedures and preparing specimens for outside laboratories
- Performing and/or assisting with diagnostic imaging, including radiographs, CT, MRI, and digital imaging
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records including treatment sheets and medication logs
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe hospital environment
- Delivering excellent customer service and professional communication to clients and referring veterinarians
- Supporting client education on discharge instructions, medications, and follow-up care

REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 2 years of veterinary hospital experience required
- Hands-on experience with anesthesia monitoring is required
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with multi-parameter monitoring equipment, as well as, inhalant and injectable anesthetic agents
- Experience in specialty, surgical, or neurology veterinary medicine is strongly preferred
- Candidates in progress toward credentialing are highly encouraged to apply
- Familiarity with anesthesia monitoring equipment, inhalant and injectable agents
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to handle a fast-paced, high-stress environment with professionalism and positivity
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods
